I am "Titanium Man" on a trike!

After my new left hip replacement about March 2021, I had to get a total knee replacement on the right in February 2022, and a new right hip in October 2022! Total Knee Replacement to riding bikes

This is the story of my journey from my Total Knee Replacement surgery, through recovery, and back to riding my bikes and recumbent trike again. This video is real; no sugar coating. You will learn all the things the doctors didn’t tell you, but should have prepared you for. Getting your knee joint replaced in a total knee replacement, or a partial knee replacement, is a challenging experience. You will have to endure the pain and swelling that may affect your whole leg, daily exercises, severe insomnia, and drug withdraw symptoms. I talk about all of this and more. My hope is you will do better if your expectations for recovery are well understood.

Cyclists recover faster. My physical therapists said “...my leg muscles were stronger because of all the bicycle riding I’ve done over the years, and that’s why I am recovering faster than most people.

To speed my healing and recovery, I ride a recumbent trike with an eAssist hub motor. This has been a huge asset to getting my right quad muscles stronger, improve the range of motion in my new knee, and improve my mood and happiness.

The reason I’m riding on 3-wheels is because I am not confident enough to ride my 2-wheeled bicycles yet. My right leg muscles are still a bit weak, and I fear falling on my new right knee. So I’ll continue only riding my trike until my right leg is strong enough to handle an emergency stop without buckling under stress.

Review of the New River Greenway 2021

Riding the New River Greenway in 2021 on my Catrike Road. This is a 1-hour ride (including intersection delays) of about 12.5 miles, riding east from Markem Parkin Sunrise to Secret Woods Nature Center in Dania Beach. The concrete path is wide and the seams are tight for a smooth ride.
The intersections can be annoying, especially the terrible Florida Drivers. Watch how the cars Turn-Right-On-Red to cutting me off, in the crosswalks WITH THE WALK SIGNAL ON!

The loud honking you hear is my "Loud-Bicycle Horn," Yep that's it's name. It's the only car horn make for a bike. It's a real life saver! I highly recommend it (not a paided endorsement) https://loudbicycle.com/

Dog Trike Ride. Epic Fail!

I tied to get my 17 pound dog, Booboo, to ride in a basket on my trike. The backet and dog harnes was of my own design.
Booboo was good for the first 2 minutes of this video. The he decided to be a "Lap Dog." He'd rather ride on m y head and shoulders than in his basket!

I next tried using a Milk Crate with slightly better results. Let me know in the comments if you want to see Booboo's part 2, The "Milk Crate Fail."

Review of the SportCrafters MR110 OverDrive Trike Trainer. This compact roller arrives completely assembles and ready to use. There's nothing to adjust. Just slip it under your trikes rear wheel of your "tadpole" trike.

Great for riders needing rehab training, rainy days, winter indoor training, or just to get some extra exercise while watching TV.

Bianca's Trike Upgrade & Tune-up

Bianca loved her Catrike Trail, but not the noisy drivetrain. It was all factory spec except for the KMC DLC Super Light chain and elliptical chainrings that she had upgraded 2-years ago. In those 2-years the chain wore out over 80% and the black chain tubes were badly chewed-up at the ends from the chain and gashing into the front derailleur. The Bearing on the one idler were also worn out.

She felt the trike had gotten harder to pedal and was too noisy. So I got to work. I removed the long chain tubes and installed a TerraCycle Clamp-on Return Idler to guide the chain return. The chain was replaced with a more durable Bulk KMC X10.93 Chain custom sized to Bianca boom length and gears.

The best reward if seeing the huge smile on Bianca’s face as she test rode her upgraded and cleaned-up trike.

Trident Trikes "E Terrain 26" Build

Building a new Trident Trikes "E Terrain 26" trike with 500-Watt hub motor, Wind Fairing and Sun Canopy/Headrest. Tone E Dee is recovering from back surgery for a motorcycle related injury. He ordered his new trike to improve his health and have some exciting fun adventures. But needed help putting it all together.

I'm Joel at www.GetBackTrikes and I had a blast building Dee's new trike with a custom fit just for him. The sun sets early in January so I can to return for a second day to install his wind fairing and sun shade canopy. It's a sweet custom ride.

Shark Valley Trike Ride with the South Florida Bent Riders

At Shark Valley, Everglades National Park. Meet the colorful characters of the South Florida Bent Riders Group riding the 15 mile bike loop. A beautiful partly cloudy day at 90 degrees F. This day's after heavy rains put about 20% of the paved road under upto 4-inches of water. This video of our 2-hour ride has been sped-up in parts to highlight our fun riders experience. Tire Blow-Out on Trike Ride - Tire Failure of Schwalbe Marathon Plus

I had a Tire Failure on my new Schwalbe Marathon Plus 20" x 1.35 Bike tire. Blew a hole right through the wire bead. This tire is one of three I purchased from Utah Trikes just 7-weeks ago. I've ridden about 100 miles on these new tires. Looks like perhaps a factory defect. I'll ask Utah trikes for a discount or factory replacement. We'll see what happens next. In any event, I'm trikeless for 5 to 7 days till I get a new tire in my hands.

Truing Trike Wheels

How I repaired a Sunseeker Fat Tad Trike from Utah Trikes with a bad vibration. It's well loves with some miles on it. Its wheels wobble like a "weeble." Both front tires were badly out of true and dish.
The Sun Seeker trike is more work to repair because is it a more economy product. You have to remove the brakes just to remove the wheels! But wheels is wheels. They all true-up the same.

Trike'n Home, dropped car off for repair - a Time Lapse video

Catalyst Pedals for Trikes

Review of the Catalyst Pedals, by Pedaling Innovations, for recumbent trikes. This is NOT a sponsored review. Originally designed for mountain bikes. These pedals work especially well for recumbent trikes. I would think recumbent bicycles too. Clipped-in pedals force you to push/pull on the ball of your foot 100% of the time. This can cause numb and hot spots. These large flat pedals allow you to place your foot in the toe, arch, or heal to best suit that moment in your ride. The adjustable studs really hold your foot well on the pedals. Never has my foot slipped off these pedals.

They come in 4 colors: Blue, red, gray, black. The blue matched my trike.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tires on my Trike review

Review of Schwalbe Marathon Plus 1.35" tires for Recumbent Trikes.
I replaced my thread-worn Schwalbe Tryker tires with new Schwalbe Marathon Plus 1.35" tires on my Catrike Road recumbent trike early September 2020. The fatter 1.75" size tires may ride even more smoothly with more road dampening, but a bit slower than my 1.35" tires.

PROS:
They roll faster with less road resistance.
Turning is much easier, and more effortless.
Puncture resistant; SmartGuard, TwinSkin.
Hich reflective sidewall.

CONS:
Difficult to install the usual way. You really need to watch the videos below to learn how to install these tires the easy way!
